Why Nursing is Worth It!

Being only in first year, I have experienced a lot of...textbooks, and papers. But thankfully, with the use of a high school Co-operative Program, I was able to go into a hospital and work with Nurses, and patients. I spent over 5 months at the Welland General Hospital, on the Mat/Child floor. This meant I spent time with children up to the age of 18, and also with brand new mothers and their new born infants. I was able to witness numerous C-sections, and I feel that having that co-op program, allowed me to truly understand what it means to be a nurse.

This picture in my mind, just explains it all. With my co-op I saw death, illnesses, and even births. But just seeing how this all effected the nurses in the long run is what I was trying to grasp the most. After witnessing the birth of a child, I felt so happy and full of joy. The nurses on the floor were happier, and it would make the day go by faster, but still with the same joy from that early morning birth. But after a patient has become very ill, Nurses take a turn for the worse. This is very hard on both the nurses and the patients. But in the end, Nursing is going to be worth it. Because by saving one life, you are saving your own. And just to have the ability to help someone who is in urgent need, is the greatest ability that anyone could have and be given.
