Student Nursing Friends

When I told my friends and family that I was going to go to University to become a Nurse, they were more than overjoyed. When I first started this term I was worried more about going to clinical than about my classes, and my marks. But now that it is the final week, and finals begin on Saturday for me, I have realized that all my stresses in September are totally different then the stresses that I am feeling now. I am so happy to know that I am going to clinical in January, that it is almost overpowering my stress about my three finals this coming week. Just having the thought that I will be out in the hospital again, makes me so pleased. I am happy with all of the attempts that I have put forth this term, and can’t wait to be in clinical. Having all of the stresses of being in University, being away from home, and of course making all new friends, can be a lot harder than perceived. But now that I have made new friends that are in Nursing alongside me, I am happier, and cannot wait to work alongside them one day. I think that will all of their help in the end, we will all become great nurses, and co-workers. Being in classes that are only full of Nurses helps us as Nursing students to recognize who we can talk to about our problems, and who we can rely on when needed.

Why Nursing is Worth It!

Being only in first year, I have experienced a lot of...textbooks, and papers. But thankfully, with the use of a high school Co-operative Program, I was able to go into a hospital and work with Nurses, and patients. I spent over 5 months at the Welland General Hospital, on the Mat/Child floor. This meant I spent time with children up to the age of 18, and also with brand new mothers and their new born infants. I was able to witness numerous C-sections, and I feel that having that co-op program, allowed me to truly understand what it means to be a nurse.

This picture in my mind, just explains it all. With my co-op I saw death, illnesses, and even births. But just seeing how this all effected the nurses in the long run is what I was trying to grasp the most. After witnessing the birth of a child, I felt so happy and full of joy. The nurses on the floor were happier, and it would make the day go by faster, but still with the same joy from that early morning birth. But after a patient has become very ill, Nurses take a turn for the worse. This is very hard on both the nurses and the patients. But in the end, Nursing is going to be worth it. Because by saving one life, you are saving your own. And just to have the ability to help someone who is in urgent need, is the greatest ability that anyone could have and be given.

Neo-Natal Nursing?

Welcome back to my blog, seeing as it has been a while, I have numerous topics racing through my head. I recently had a class in which we were very pleased to have a fire fighter come in and talk to us Nurses, about Fire Safety, and Fire Control. With this presentation, I got into thinking about what I really want to use my Nursing degree for. I have always wanted to work with children, but now that I am FINALLY here, and have all of the resources to work in any field that I want to, I am put in a very difficult position. I recently found this amazing video about Neo-natal Nursing, and have discovered that this video is actually part of a TV show, just for Nurses, in Australia. Please feel free to have a quick look at it, and comment about how it made you feel about what Neo-natal nursing really involves.

After watching this video, I really feel that need to go out and help the newest generations, but will I really want to do this in 4 years!! Hopefully, I will figure out all the answers soon enough!

The Use of Technology in the Health Care Profession

Technology is being used every day, whether it is in a hospital, or office every person has used or will use some form of technology at least once in their life time. With the help of technology nurses and other health care professionals are able to record, research, and compare patient’s records, diagnosis’ and symptoms. And with technology, it is helping nurses, and health care professionals to overcome communication barriers in health care. Nurse’s are able to use online translators, where they can write out what they are saying, or say it, and the translator will communicate back to the patient, in their own language. It is being used to replace paper work, making charts easier to access. And with this technology, who knows what the future of health care will bring.

First Blog!

Hey there I’m Lauren, welcome to my new blog post. I grew up in a small town, where I knew of more barn animals then people. And high speed internet is for the “rich” people in town. So blogging is pretty interesting for a small farm girl. Right now I am currently at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology for nursing. Creating a blog has never even came across my mind, but now that I have been introduced to blogging, I find myself looking through websites to read over other peoples blogs. My interests are skiing, softball and anything to do with children or animals. So after today, I will be posting more blogs, and I really look forward to reading your comments.
Thanks for sharing.
